Kentwood Office Furniture has always had a corporate commitment to sustaining the environment. From the green color of our logo to our popular slogan, “Just Re-Do It,” we are striving to improve ourselves, our customers, and our world.
In 2006, Kentwood Office Furniture purchased an abandoned 140,000 square foot building from an automotive supplier in bankruptcy. Reclaiming a building and revitalizing it was a clear choice to be consistent with our values. Over the past 3 years, we have reduced our energy consumption and improved our overall efficiency.
• 75% reduction in lighting electricity by replacing high pressure sodium lights with energy efficient fluorescent fixtures
• 36% reduction in natural gas usage by replacing a large inefficient air make up unit with three smaller modular high-temperature rise, direct fired systems
We established a Kentwood “Green Team” to help us evolve into better stewards of our environment.
Kentwood Office Furniture has always been committed to reducing waste in our manufacturing processes. Today, we recycle tons of steel, cardboard, aluminum, and wooden pallets on an annual basis. In addition, our team members take care to recycle everyday consumables at work and at home.
Our Products – Remanufactured and Used
Kentwood Office Furniture is known throughout North America as a company that focuses on sustaining the environment. Our brokerage team works with companies that have surplus office furniture to identify the best ways to remove their office furniture and keep it out of landfills.
According to waste hierarchy, our responsibility is to minimize our impact on the environment by reducing, reusing, and recycling. Although new products may contain recycled content, remanufactured office furniture from Kentwood Office Furniture is better for the environment. The amount of energy required to remanufacture a product is 90% less than that required to manufacture a new product. In addition, every 40 stations that we remanufacture keeps one trailer load of furniture out of landfills.
Kentwood Office Furniture also proudly offers new furniture from leaders in environmental sustainability such as HON, Kimball, National, Trendway and Allsteel. Products from these companies have Indoor Advantage and Greenguard certifications.
Our Community — Education
Kentwood Office Furniture is an active member of the West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum. This unique collaboration with other companies in our area seeks to share ideas and to educate other organizations about sustainability.
On an annual basis, our team members also participate in recycling promotions with local non profit organizations. In 2007, we co-sponsored and hosted a computer recycling drive with Goodwill Industries of Grand Rapids at our headquarters location.
